University of Pharmacy, Mandalay was established in 2000 and the first year B. Pharm. course was started. Botany Department was one of the first year subject departments and it was run by Daw Khin Thaw Dar (Lecturer and Head) from May 2000 to December 2001. She was the first head of Botany Department.

Then the first year course was one-year long. In 2002, the head of the department of Botany was Daw Wah Wah Htay and organized with four teaching staffs “one Head of the Department, one Assistant Lecturer, two Demonstrators, and also with only one laboratory assistant.”

Then, Daw Aye Aye Myat, Lecturer and Head, has taken the duty of Department Head from May 2004 to April 2008. In April 2008, Daw Moe Moe Kyaw Shin acted as the lecturer and Head of the Department, and organized with five teaching staffs: one Head of the Department, one Assistant Lecturer and three Demonstrators, and also with two laboratory assistants.” Then she transferred to the University of Medicine, Mandalay in 2013 May. In the academic year 2013 May, Daw Than Than Nu transferred to this department from the University of Medicine, Magway and she carried on as the head of the department. The department was organized with seven teaching staffs: one Head of the Department, one Assistant Lecturer, and five Demonstrators, and also with two laboratory assistants. Then she transferred to University of Dental, Yangon in 2019 April. In April 2019, Daw Yi Yi Win carried on as the Head of the Department. The department was organized with five teaching staffs: one Head of the Department, one assistant lecturer, and three Demonstrators, and also with two laboratory assistant.
